Northumberland Oak Smoked
Northumberland Cheese Company was founded in 1984 by Marc Robertson. Located in a converted 19th Century granary in northern England, they specialize in marrying traditional cheese-making craftsmanship with modern best practices. Though Marc has now retired, he remains close to the business and all of their farmhouse cheeses are lovingly handmade, pasteurized, and vegetarian.
This skill and passion has resulted in a number of award-winning cheeses. Northumberland is one such standout. Winning Silver at the 2019 International Cheese Awards for best smoked, this is the perfect introduction to smoked artisan cheese.
Cold-smoked over oak chippings for at least twenty-four hours, Northumberland is then matured for a further three months. The result is a mellow and creamy cheese with a bronzed outer core, supple golden interior and a long, rich finish. Immensely versatile, this cheese would be the perfect addition to a homemade bacon sandwich. Or, pair with your favourite chili jelly for an irresistible combination that is smokey, sweet and spicy.
