Petit Munster Organic A.O.P.
One of France's most famous washed-rind cheeses, this Munster is made with pasteurized, organic cow's milk and comes to us from La Maison Haxaire in France. Located in the beautiful Vosges mountains near the border of Germany, the family fromagerie has been the only producer of A.O.P. Munster in Alsace for three generations.
Munster has humble beginnings, originating in mountainous monasteries in the middle ages. It received PDO status in 1978, ensuring all cheeses must be matured within a designated area and for a minimum amount of time.
When young, Munster has a pale rind that is pinkish-white, dry and mild. As the cheese ages and receives its regular brine washes, the rind is transformed to a rich, red-orange colour with a distinctly sticky texture and assertive aroma.
Unctuous, meaty and slightly tangy on the finish, Munster is a cheese with a strong personality and a star of the Alsace region.
